Trauma Informed Nutrition
February 15 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm MST
Join us for guest speaker Kristi Mollner, Registered Dietician with the Maricopa Department of Public Health for an enlightening discussion on Trauma Informed Nutrition.
Food can provide nourishment and joy. Food can also be a source of adversity and trauma such as with food insecurity and eating disorders. Children are especially at risk for experiencing food-related traumas. Over 1 in 4 Arizona children are considered food insecure. Further, 95% of eating disorders are found in adolescents and young adults between the ages of 12 and 25. Schools are in the position to recognize and respond to food-related trauma by approaching child nutrition through a trauma-informed lens. Kristi Mollner, a registered dietitian nutritionist with Maricopa County Department of Public Health, will provide an overview of food-related traumas, as well as offer simple, yet effective, ways schools can cultivate positive and healing food environments.
